Parliament returns

The 57th Queensland Parliament commenced sittings this week, with all members being sworn in, including new members.

New appointment announced

Jon Persley, a veteran of Queensland and Federal Labor, will be appointed Deputy Chief of Staff to the Premier. He brings extraordinarily strong campaign and government experience, and the ability to ensure the Government's messages and actions remain closely in-line with community expectations and interests.

Committees appointed

Chairs, Deputy Chairs and Members of parliamentary committees have been appointed and can be found here.

Tit-for-Tat continues

Signaling a greater willingness to push back on interstate critics, new Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath has said “New South Wales need to manage New South Wales and Queensland will manage Queensland … There’s one thing I just want to make clear. The fact is that in almost any area we have lower restrictions than New South Wales."

In short, Queensland is saying to the ongoing commentary of Premier Berejiklian, "You do you."

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has repeated his calls for the Government to release its health and scientific advice, during question time and in the media.

Queensland border to reopen

Meanwhile, on advice from the Chief Health Officer, the Premier has announced that following 28 day periods without community infection in the Greater Sydney Local Government Area and in Victoria, Queensland will reopen to Sydney and Victoria from 1 December.

The news has been widely welcomed by ecstatic tourism operators.
